Bill Nye Explains Why The End
Is Nye
Bill Nye is best known for his time as the host of the 1993 PBS series, "Bill Nye the Science Guy," and has become a popular media figure and regular talk-show guest throughout his career. His mission remains to educate the public about science, with his more recent shows — "The Eyes of Nye" and "Bill Nye Saves the World" — aimed toward adults.
These shows tackled serious problems like climate change, but Nye's new Peacock show, "The End Is Nye," takes on the most depressing possibility: the end of the world. "We are living in anxious times," said Nye, whose newest series focuses on different apocalyptic disasters that could hit Earth at any moment — but why explore such prospects now?
According to Nye, people look for entertainment that reflects their world: "When things are going well, people watch romantic comedies. When things are anxious, people watch disaster movies." The show is not all bleak, though, with Nye saying, "In the second half, we show how everything could be great with the optimistic view of the future and science.”
