She-Hulk Episode 3 Just Dropped The Most Polarizing Scene In The MCU

Lawyers have always had somewhat of a tenuous reputation with the public, but ones that can also transform into a gamma-powered superhuman? That's an entirely different beast altogether. "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" is Marvel's latest television show, and it is about Jennifer Walters "aka" She-Hulk, a lawyer and cousin of Bruce Banner. This familial connection is actually the means by which Jennifer is imbued with the powers of the Hulk, which grants her incredible strength, endurance, and physical resilience.

Since premiering, "She-Hulk" has been somewhat divisive among fans, which has caused some rather bizarre stratification on user-generated review sites. Over on IMDb, "She-Hulk" currently has well over 60,000 user submissions, but most of the votes give the show either a one or a 10. Likewise, Rotten Tomatoes gives "She-Hulk" a critical score of 88%, while the audience score is 50%. Now that Episode 3 of the show has dropped, fans have gotten a chance to not only see the Abomination (Tim Roth) and Sorcerer Supreme Wong (Benedict Wong) but a surprise cameo born from a case of mistaken identity as well. It is this cameo that has led to yet another polarizing moment in the history of the "She-Hulk" series.

Viewers of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law are divided about Megan Thee Stallion and She-Hulk twerking

Although the primary focus of Episode 3 of "She-Hulk" is squarely set on the redemption of the Abomination, a subplot involving Jennifer's former co-worker Dennis Bukowski (Drew Matthews) and a shape-shifting elf leads to the previously mentioned divisive moment. The basis of this subplot is that Dennis spends over $175,000 on a person whom he thinks is Megan Thee Stallion, the famous musician, and that he is seeking restitution for the deception. Dennis wins the case against the would-be Megan Thee Stallion on account of Jennifer attesting to Dennis' arrogance, and the episode ends with Jennifer actually becoming the lawyer for the real Megan Thee Stallion, and the two celebrate with some good old-fashioned twerking. It is this moment that has set the internet aflame once again.

Converging on Twitter, several viewers let their thoughts be known, specifically about Jennifer and Megan Thee Stallion's booty popping. @FilmOdysseyMCU said the moment, "Seeing a lot of people complain about She-Hulk twerking in the latest episode. If it doesn't make you laugh, fine. But to use 'over-sexualization' as a reason to dislike it feels weird to me when it's just two women dancing to a song, feeling themselves. Let women have fun." @D_ndamagi said that they know the show is meant to be sex-positive, but they didn't need to show Jennifer and Megan's twerking celebration.

Some fans say the scene was cringey and unnecessary

Others were even more direct with their opinion, with @VineusVile complaining that they had to watch the character of She-Hulk twerk in GameCube graphics, and posted a photoshopped image of Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) from "Blade Runner," saying that he has seen cringe that you wouldn't believe. @straight_bunny replied and said that they use to be an MCU fan and posted an image of a samurai about to commit seppuku. @paulmonteiroca joked that the VFX artists working on "She-Hulk" asked for fair wages, and Disney replied by asking them to make She-Hulk twerk. @shineholmes asked how Marvel could go from "Avengers: Endgame" to twerk battles between She-Hulk and Megan Thee Stallion. In other words, it seems like some viewers definitely had a hard time wrapping their heads around the scene.

However, not all had complaints or confusion, and some viewers actually enjoyed the moment, which seems to be a repeating trend with all things "She-Hulk." @DaRealPJ posted a GIF of a wide-eyed man staring at his phone, and said the scene made them fall in love with She-Hulk. @CamSodaMare stated that they just saw She-Hulk twerk and joked that they couldn't have asked for anything more from the show.

Other fans think the scene was perfect, and adored the moment

The aforementioned comments weren't the only ones expressing their support for the end-credits scene. @scarletbat_ was amazed that "She-Hulk" showed both Jennifer and Megan Thee Stallion twerking, and couldn't believe their eyes. @maloulada expressed an opinion saying that those who have detracted from the scene don't understand the point of "She-Hulk," and that the character can do whatever she wants with her own body. @marblechairs joked, "I did not expect to wake up and see She-Hulk twerk with Megan Thee Stallion but hey, I'm not complaining."

Considering the varied sentiments, it seems as if viewers of "She-Hulk" can be placed in one of two camps — either the twerking scene was perfect and fits the show, or it was completely unnecessary and cringey. Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Direct, director Kat Coiro explained how they managed the appearance of Megan Thee Stallion by saying, "Well, it's funny, because it was scripted as a celebrity who nobody in their right mind would believe would date Dennis Bukowski. And it was actually Jameela Jamil who had worked with Megan, who brought her name up, and we all lost our minds. And when we told Tatiana that she was going to do it, Tatiana was so excited because she's a true Megan fan." Ultimately, it seems as if "She-Hulk" is still polarizing fans, but at least we know the cast sure had fun with the scene.
