"Now You See Me" performed some serious magic when it hit theaters in 2013. With the help of a crackling screenplay and a charismatic cast featuring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco, the film's savvy mix of magic and mayhem proved an instant hit with audiences, conjuring over $350 million at the worldwide box office.

Needless to say, a sequel soon appeared out of thin air. Save for a pregnant Fisher, who was replaced by Lizzy Caplan, the 2016 big-screen reunion of the Four Horsemen and their ominous overseers, the Eye, proved every bit as fun and profitable as the original, with "Now You See Me 2" essentially matching its predecessor's box office. Now a third entry is in the works from Lionsgate. If you want to learn more about this upcoming film, read on for everything we know so far about "Now You See Me 3."

When will Now You See Me 3 be released?

"Now You See Me" first wowed audiences back in 2013, with the follow-up putting on an even bigger show three years later in 2016. It's now been quite a few years since we last saw the Four Horsemen in action — so when is "Now You See Me 3" going to magically appear onstage?

In November 2023, news arrived that "Now You See Me 3" had been officially greenlit. However, we may have to wait a bit longer than we initially thought. Back in November, Lionsgate chair Joe Drake told investors that shooting would start in the spring. But in March 2024, Jesse Eisenberg told Collider that production would begin in six months. Fortunately, Eisenberg is super thrilled to be back in action, and he especially loves the screenplay.

As he explained to Collider, "For me, the thing I love about it so much, having just read the script, it celebrates intelligence and it's non-violent but exciting, and it's so weird to see that because it sounds so obvious, and it sounds like that would be common, but it's actually quite uncommon to have a movie that's this franchise, this Hollywood-style movie that's really just about teamwork and intelligence, rather than just violence."

Who is starring in Now You See Me 3?

The original "Now You See Me" boasts a pretty impressive cast, encompassing Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Mélanie Laurent. That's a killer line-up right there. While the sequel did lose Fisher after she became pregnant, it added Lizzy Caplan and the Boy Who Lived himself, Daniel Radcliffe, to the list. But who's showing up for part three?

Well, we've got good news — all the major stars are coming back. Eisenberg, Harrelson, Franco, and Ruffalo are all returning, and Fisher will also reprise her part as Henley Reeves. As for new faces, Dominic Sessa has joined the cast, fresh off his breakout turn in "The Holdovers." He'll be joined by Justice Smith, who previously played in titles like "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" and "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves." Ariana Greenblatt will also play a big part, further building out an impressive resume that features titles like "Barbie," "Ahsoka," and "Avengers: Infinity War." Plus, Rosamund Pike of "Saltburn" and "Gone Girl" will star in the film, portraying a character described in a press release as "pivotal."

Who is directing Now You See Me 3?

Jon M. Chu helmed "Now You See Me 2," and at one point, it was reported that he would be coming back for part three. But that was many years ago, and Chu has since moved on from the franchise. Now, directing duties have fallen to Ruben Fleischer. If that name sounds familiar, it's because he directed the Tom Holland action flick "Uncharted," superhero blockbuster "Venom," and the all-time horror classic "Zombieland."

Thanks to his filmography, Fleischer has experience working with two of the main leads from the "Now You See Me" series: Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson. Lionsgate is pumped to have Fleischer at the helm; when the movie was greenlit in November 2023, Lionsgate chair Joe Drake remarked, "We reimagined 'Now You See Me' with Ruben Fleischer, who is an absolute master at shepherding franchises ... couldn't be happier about that. That's going to start in the spring." This threequel is in seriously safe hands.

Who is writing Now You See Me 3?

Who will write "Now You See Me 3?" Well, just like it takes a handful of magicians to put on a good stage show, it takes several writers to bring those characters to life. Appropriately enough, "Now You See Me 3" boasts three accomplished wordsmiths — Eric Warren Singer, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Mike Lesslie.

Eric Warren Singer penned the second highest-grossing movie of 2022: "Top Gun: Maverick." He also wrote the screenplays for "American Hustle" and "Only the Brave." As for Grahame-Smith, he's most famous for writing the book and script versions of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" (as well as "The Lego Batman Movie"). Last but not least, Lesslie co-wrote the script for the most recent "Hunger Games" movie, "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes."
